From Dust

I have been meaning to change this blog around for quite sometime, basically the format, and well, most other things about it. I have this crazy idea of exploring different beliefs, vantage points, if you will, of certain things within our culture; How they affect the way we interact, think, see, and live. These things especially hold fascination for me because there are multiple ways of looking at things, and in doing so, we sometimes discover that our eyes don't see the way Jesus' would and our hearts don't react the way his would. All I intend (even if it happens in a round-a-bout sort-of way) to do with photography or the words I lay down is to point to Him- and hopefully that is what anyone who chances upon all this will be left with.

So onto Death, most feared of foes.... or so it seems. You can call me morbid. It's ok. Some preliminary questions to juggle around in your head:

Why do we attempt so hard to avoid death?
How does our denial and avoidance of the reality of death manifest itself?
How do our beliefs about what death is cause us to react?
What is the correlation between life and death ?
How does our fear of death affect life?

Why do we attempt so hard to avoid death?
A: We are indoctrinated this way- it's Adam's way. And because we can't see the possibility that death is a good thing- that it's designed to bring us to Resurrection. Loss of onesself seems to be about the biggest loss conceivable, if that is indeed what death is...

How does our denial and avoidance of the reality of death manifest itself?

A:We commit crimes. Crimes designed to prolong life, and sedate our knowledge that the end is coming. Wealth, comfort, power, control. All these give the illusion that we will not die, and are not dying.

How do our beliefs about what death is cause us to react?
A: Since we believe death is the end, we scramble to gain as much as possible in the moment. We think we won't be enjoying anything after death.

What is the correlation between life and death ?
A: We think life is the thing that comes before death. it's really the thing that comes after death. Before death, there is only a shadow of life.

How does our fear of death affect life?
A: It conditions all of life to be a reaction to what is about to happen instead of being given over completely to the moment. The result is pragmatism with the end goal being personal gain, and the means being the sacrifice of real joy.

wow. thanks for the feedback.
I think there are multiple answers to each question.... or maybe multiple facets to each answer. In asking the questions, I already had a lot of answers to them, but it's great to get another perspective, especially when you are trying to incorporate the answers in some sort of visible media, not just words.
You are giving me even more ideas for what I want to portray, and the ideas I want to incorporate in photos/ writing. Thanks.
